Stafford B team experienced a disappointing end to their Wolverhampton Div 3 season with a 0-5 defeat to a strong Boldmere team.  Boldmere deserved their victory, but 5-0 was probably a little flattering.

First to finish was Guy de Visme who played incorrectly in the advanced variation of the French Defence and lost a pawn.  He did recover slightly but his opponent efficiently won the end game.  Peter Evans' defeat followed on board 2 when he allowed his opponent to infiltrate his back rank with queen and bishop.

David Barker did have winning chances on Board 4, but was unable to convert them and the Boldmere player recovered to give his side a 3-0 lead.  Sumit Raisinghaney was playing his first game of the year in this division and he did well, holding on for an endgame with opposite coloured bishops. Unfortunately his opponent had extra pawns and one of them was sacrificed to permit another to pass, 0-4.

Andrew Leadbetter had been in difficulty all game, he recovered from an opening that left his king exposed, he then got his bishop trapped and with both clocks running down he kept on attacking but could not hold and lost.

This match ended the Wolverhampton Division 3 season for Stafford B.   Team Captain, Peter Evans said he is pleased with the results this year which are an improvement on the two previous seasons.  The major disappointment was that on two occasions we were not able to field a full team.

The final results are, Played 12, Won 7, Drawn 1 and lost 4.  Our final position will be determined by other outstanding fixtures, but Stafford B are potentially in line for Runners-Up spot.

Ten players represented the club in this competition, and Peter's thanks go out to everyone who played and hopes that they will all be available for future seasons.
