Opposite sides in County tussle

Stafford Chess club players found themselves on opposite sides on Saturday 16th October. The reason was the Inter County Under 120 section match between Staffordshire Bulldogs, captained by Peter Evans of Stafford and Staffordshire Terriers. The Bulldogs team is mostly selected from players in the Wolverhampton and Cannock Leagues and the Terriers from players in the North Staffordshire (Stoke) League.  It is therefore appropriate that as Stafford is currently the only club to compete in all three leagues, that there were Stafford players on both sides.
Peter Evans and Geoff Cox represented the Bulldogs, while Denis Nesbitt played on Board 2 for the Terriers.  The Bulldogs won the match by seven boards to five, but unfortunately all Stafford players lost their matches. There is a further Stafford connection because Denis' opponent was Tony Meakin from Rugeley Chess Club, who assisted Stafford Chess Club a few years ago in the North Staffs League.
An excellent start for Peter in his new role as Staffordshire Bulldog's Captain.  Congratulations!
