Stafford B team were hoping to follow in the footsteps of the A team, to secure the double over Rushall this week in the Wolverhampton league.  Ray Hyde was the first to finish in this division 3 home match.  The position had become very blocked, with no real opportunity for either player to secure an advantage, so it was no surprise that the game was agreed a draw.  Geoff Cox was next to finish with a good win.  Acting captain obviously suits him.  David Barker followed closely, and having recovered from being a pawn down, he played well to secure a valuable half point for Stafford, as did Denis Nesbitt, meaning Stafford could not now lose the match.   Guy de Visme's game was briefly interrupted by his opponent's mobile phone going off very loudly, but after the short delay play continued and despite being a knight down, Guy had two connected pawns as compensation.  Finding a splendid way to win back the knight (or one of his opponents rooks), Guy finally offered a draw, as he only had 3 minutes left in which to find a winning line, compared to his opponents 30,.  After much deliberation the draw was agreed, securing the team win for Stafford.  It is certain that Guy had a win, but could he do it in the 3 minutes?  Luckily we didn't have to find out.
