We left the Wolverhampton League Division One match against Walsall Kipping with Stafford leading 2.5-1.5 but struggling in the two adjourned positions. In the first of those to be resumed, Matthew Harborne fought valiantly with rook, knight and bishop against queen and opposite-coloured bishop, and Matthew also having one pawn less. He looked to be close to securing a blockade but his opponent had many ways to slowly probe and eventually managed to break through.
So now the match score is level with Ray Hyde due to defend his difficult bishop ending, a pawn down, on 20th November.
