Stafford C finished their Summer League Program with a draw against at Brewood. Unfortunately Stafford had only three players as Brewood’s Tuesday home night does not suit all our players.
Sumit Raisinghaney was victorious on board 3 to equalise the defaulted board. He won the exchange and with greater piece activity he was able to achieve a winning knight fork.
Peter Evans on board 1 was faced with the Two Knight’s defence. This time he played quietly instead of choosing a more aggressive line. Peter was forced on the defensive, but the position was simplified and a draw agreed.
On board 2 James Topp with the black pieces choose Philidor’s defence and he found himself unable to castle against a strong attack with rook and queen on his d file. It took a lot of accurate defending before James was able to find threats of his own. White nullified James’ threats and a draw was agreed to make the match all square.
The match ended the short summer season for Stafford C and captain Peter Evans thanks all players for their efforts. The results were mixed, but they improved as the season progressed.
