Stafford finished a creditable second to a strong Cheddleton side in the Open section of the Stoke League Rapidplay Jamboree, in which teams of 4 played 2 games of 30 minutes per player against opponents from a range of the other 6 teams.

Ray Hyde was Stafford's leading scorer, winning both of his games, whilst Pavel Nefyodov had one win and one draw.  It was unfortunate that the only encounter with Cheddleton involved Stephane Pedder, as board two, being upfloated to play the Cheddleton board one in the first round.  Stephane fought well and had good chances to win, but as time ran short his opponent managed to turn the tables in what proved to be the decisive individual game.

Final scores (out of 8): Cheddleton A 7.5, Stafford 5.5, Fenton 4, Macclesfield & Newcastle 3, Cheddleton B & Holmes Chapel Bishops 2.5. Stafford scores (out of 2): Malcolm Armstrong 1, Stephane Pedder 1, Pavel Nefyodov 1.5, Ray Hyde 2.
